In Kenya, only 4% of the 21 million working population are insured by their employers. Businesses face severe hardships due to lost work cases occasioned by injuries, illnesses and deaths. Employees lose their loved ones due to medical costs and other emergency situations worsened by financial constraint.
iNuka pap is a HR application that allows employees to access micro-insurance and instant micro-credit on their mobile wallet fully deductible from their salary at HR level. Through the platform, employers can also insure or provide access to insurance for their workers together with their families for as low as $ 0.03 a day. iNuka pap makes commission from insurance underwriters and earns an interest on the micro-loans.
Kenyans have a low level of familiarity with insurance, but they understand microcredit, so iNuka pap has combined the two on a mobile platform and made the insurance the most affordable in the market. They integrate their platform with the company's HR system allowing them to automatically deduct their principle and interest from borrowers when the company disburses salaries at end of month. Other suppliers of these loans charge much higher interest rates of around 10% leading to long-term indebtedness.
